Benicia is considered one of the hidden gems of the San Francisco Bay Area. The city has a rich history, boutique shops, fine dining options, and a lively waterfront. The First Street Promenade is a great place to take in the view of the Carquinez Strait. Stroll through one of several city parks, or tour the popular Benicia Capitol State Historic Park. Benicia was California’s third capitol back in the mid-1800s and you can tour the original red brick building.
Downtown Benicia is historic and bustling with locals and tourists alike. One of our favorite places to start the day is Farm and Flour, a bakery where people line up for fresh-baked bread, sweet treats, and the most amazing avocado toast. We also like the First Street Cafe for its cozy, historic location and seafood dishes. The Benicia State Recreation Area is popular with outdoor enthusiasts. Cyclists, runners, and walkers enjoy the park’s 2 1/2 miles of road and bike paths. Benicia hosts several fun events throughout the year including the Wine and Chocolate Walk in February. Benicia is located in the North Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area, along the north bank of the Carquinez Strait. This beautiful part of the Bay Area is more sheltered, so Benicia gets more “fog-free” days to enjoy the view. Benicia is part of the San Francisco Bay Trail offering hundreds of miles to cycle, run or walk. The city of Vallejo is just minutes to the west of Benicia. Across the water to the south is the city of Concord which is about 30 minutes away and San Francisco is about an hour’s drive.
